At the height of a London summer night, the city’s rooftops pull in crowds that outnumber the street level by a factor of two. A single evening at one of these venues can run from £30 for a signature cocktail to £70 for a VIP table, but the views and ambience often justify the extra spend.

1. The Shard’s Skyline Bar – 45th Floor

Located on the 45th floor of the Shard, this bar offers a 360‑degree panorama that includes the Thames, St. Paul’s, and the Tower Bridge. The bar’s signature drink, the “Shard Sunset,” mixes gin, elderflower, and a splash of sparkling wine for a crisp finish. A table for two costs £65, but the view of the city lights is worth every pound. The bar opens at 6 pm on weekends, and a reservation is recommended after 9 pm to secure a seat.

2. The Roof at The Savoy – 27th Floor

The Savoy’s rooftop venue sits above the historic hotel’s courtyard. The bar serves classic cocktails with a twist, such as the “London Fog” – a smoky whisky mix with a hint of vanilla. Prices hover around £40 for a standard cocktail, while the “Savoy Special” – a premium gin with house‑made bitters – is £55. The venue is a favorite for late‑night brunches on Sunday mornings, with a 10 am closing time.

3. Sky Garden’s Open‑Air Terrace – 20th Floor

Sky Garden is free to enter, but a drink at the terrace bar starts at £25. The bar’s “Garden Breeze” is a citrus‑infused gin that pairs well with the lush greenery below. The terrace is open from 10 am to 11 pm on weekends, offering a relaxed vibe for daytime cocktails and a vibrant scene after sunset. The only drawback? The bar can become crowded after 8 pm, pushing wait times to 20 minutes.

4. The Roof at The Langham – 9th Floor

The Langham’s rooftop bar is a hidden gem, accessible via a private staircase. 5. The Roof at The Milestone – 12th Floor

Perched atop the Milestone hotel, this bar offers a panoramic view of the City of London. The bar’s “Milestone Mule” is a spicy vodka mule with a twist of ginger.
